NEURODE / NEUROSCRIPT

Play the MIDI effects rack

Build a small musical program, play it, and watch each incoming and outgoing note. Transpose, harmony, velocity, echo, arpeggiator and custom NeuroScript modules can be chained in any order. The parser, compiler and runtime are the actual Neurode Rust engine, running in your browser through WebAssembly.

Start playing

  1. Press Enable sound to start the quiet internal synth. Raise LEVEL carefully if needed.
  2. Press Play demo or play the on-screen keyboard. A–K and the intervening black-key letters also play notes; Space holds sustain.
  3. Try a patch such as Minor motion or Octave cascade. The demo keeps playing while you edit.
  4. Select a module to change its controls. Controls keep held notes and musical phase; patch replacement releases old notes.

Arrival is silent: sound is off, demo is stopped, MIDI is disconnected and output is disarmed. Panic cancels scheduled notes, releases owned notes and stops the demo. Leaving or hiding the page releases notes. Browser timing can jitter; keep this page visible while playing.

Make and keep a program

Open a module’s NeuroScript panel to edit its source, then compile and apply. Numeric controls can be exposed with a line such as # @param shift -24 24 12 Pitch shift and an assignment let shift = 12. Compatible numeric edits retain runtime state; arbitrary source edits replace the graph safely. Errors keep the last valid patch and your draft.

Open Demo sequence to edit up to 32 steps, enter notes such as Db4 or chords such as C4:min, or record this keyboard into a phrase. A step holds up to four notes. You can also edit the generated sequence NeuroScript.

Save / Recall stores a project in this browser and on this hostname. It includes the rack, controls, source and sequence. Export / Import transfers a project JSON file between browsers or the local preview; local and hosted saves are separate. Download .ns saves one program. Export NS programs saves the individual programs and a host-graph description; it does not flatten the whole rack into a single executable.

Connect MIDI intentionally

Use a browser with Web MIDI, such as Chrome or Edge. Other browsers can still play the internal keyboard and demo. Under MIDI connections, press Connect MIDI devices and grant permission, then select an input and output. No device is selected automatically and no SysEx access is requested.

Output selection sends nothing until Arm MIDI output. The local MIDI monitor is available without hardware. Route changes and disconnects release notes and require arming again. Avoid feedback loops between inputs and outputs. Clock mode accepts Start, Continue, Stop and 24 PPQN ticks from the selected input; a one-second clock-loss watchdog stops and releases the rack.

Privacy and hosting

The app runs locally in your browser. It has no account, application backend, analytics or cloud project storage. MIDI data and source are not uploaded by the app. Cloudflare serves the static assets over HTTPS and processes normal hosting requests. The public build contains only the rack runtime, WASM, this guide and license; local files, tests and credentials are excluded.
